Despite the recent overturning of the 1974 Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion, the throng of pro-life supporters at the 50th annual March for Life did not appear to have lessened. The many thousands attending the March included TC seminarians and their overnight guests; TC staff; the seminarians’ diocesan mentors, brothers, and sisters; and the large Catholic University student, staff, and faculty cohort. This year’s theme was “Next Steps: Marching Forward into a Post-Roe America.” The route, which usually ends at the Supreme Court, was slightly changed to pass by the House offices and end at the U.S. Capitol, to symbolize that the post-Roe battle has shifted to the legislature.
“The pro-life movement has just experienced a major victory in the fall of Roe v. Wade, but our work to build a culture of life is far from complete,” remarked Jeanne Mancini, the head of March for Life’s Education and Defense Fund.
