Theological College welcomed golfing alumni beginning their two-day visit to the seminary for Alumni Days with coffee and breakfast before their shot-gun start at 9 a.m. on the scenic Hialeah fairways at Turf Valley. Joined by seminarians, benefactors, faculty, and staff, all savored a relaxed competition in which players used their books of “mulligans” to draw the day out as the sun rose high on this exceptionally gorgeous Tuesday. Excitement on the 13th hole was palpable as golfers attempted a hole-in-one with a special prize attached: a 2015 Honda Accord. While that prize was never earned (and it was close!), TC’s own Tim Deeley, a first-year theologian from the Diocese of Pittsburgh, won the longest drive competition and rector Fr. Phillip Brown accepted the closest-to-pin recognition to enthusiastic applause. For the foursome golf competition, the first place winners were: Kevin Cox, Matthew Edmonds, Matthew Walling, and Carter Bradford. The second place winners were: Rob Alt, Jim Baker, Dave Lynch, and Brad Pierce. And the third place winners were: Mickey Smith, Jack Anders, Tim Bostic and Jamie Hilbron. Prize conferrals to these seasoned competitors took place during lunch, after all attendees ordered their open-bar refreshments and browsed the silent auction displaying a large mix of sports memorabilia and donations such as a Madonna and Child painting by Fr. Peter Gray, PSS, a hand-decorated crèche set from South America, a case of gourmet wines, and restaurant gift certificates, to name just a few items. As Father Brown gratefully reminded all the guests, the earnings from this day of fraternity and charity will directly benefit the solid and holistic human, spiritual, and pastoral formation of diocesan seminarians from all over the country. Theological College extends its sincerest thanks to all who made Sedes Cup 2014 a grand success, and we hope to see everyone again next year!
