The end of TC’s Spring semester was recognized, as usual, with a beautiful Mass that concluded with the rector’s blessing of the ten seminarians going forth to serve in pastoral ministry assignments during the upcoming year away. Blessings and congratulations were also enthusiastically extended to the five Basselin scholars graduating with their Ph.L. degrees in hand, and the five graduating theologians to be ordained in May and early June.
The year began with strict precautionary protocols being observed – and upheld throughout both semesters – and ended with applause for the fact that the seminary remained robust and healthy while successfully completing challenging academic and formation requirements. After graduation gifts were distributed, the “Golden Diaper Award” was received by Nathaniel Roberts (Washington) on behalf of the First Theology class, a nod given to the charitable activities that the seminarians engage in freely. This year’s collection competition between the classes included diapers, baby formula, and other items to donate in response to the tremendous need that arose during the pandemic. With a grant and other funds, the seminarians also made donations before leaving to two other charities: A Simple House, which attends to the material and spiritual needs of the poor; and Three Part Harmony Farm on 4th Street, which grows fresh food for area residents.
With deep appreciation for the dedication and fraternal charity of the entire community, we pray especially for our departing deacons – Jason Allan (Ft. Worth), Michael Kieler (St. Augustine), Thomas Lawrence (Richmond), Brett Metzler (Ft. Worth), and Wesbee Victor (NY); and our graduating Basselins – Mitchell Carson (Cleveland), Justin Damask (Charleston), Luke Kirk (Lafayette), Sean Neville (Cleveland), and Nicholas Waldron (Rockville Centre).
