Father Gerard Sloyan, Ph.D, S.T.L. ’44 receives the Alumnus Lifetime Service Award (above).
October 2-3, 2012
Alumni Days was a great success. More than 50 alumni from around the country returned to meet with classmates and friends from TC during the two-day event. A highlight of the celebration this year was the reunion lecture held on Wednesday, October 3 and presented by Father Robert Barron, B’82, the rector of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein, IL.
His lecture entitled ‘Forming Priests for the New Evangelization‘ provided historical context on similar initiatives through the decades and a candid assessment of what it will take to effectively communicate the message of the Gospels in a post-modern world. More than 80 attendees were on hand to hear his remarks. A video of his talk is available below.
Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, B’72, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, presided at the Alumni Mass and the Alumnus Lifetime Service Award was presented to Father Gerard Sloyan, Ph.D., S.T.L., member of the Class of 1944 from Theological College and distinguished lecturer at The Catholic University of America. His very personal remarks and anecdotes about seminary life in the 1940’s and Catholic University were very warmly received.
