On Monday, January 10, the Theological College community opened the second semester with liturgy and a banquet, as is tradition. During the liturgy, our Rector, Fr. Dominic Ciriaco, P.S.S., blessed two new icons that were commissioned to grace the gathering space of the chapel. The gorgeously crafted icons are Righteous Melchizedek and Prophet Aaron, high priests of the Hebrew Scriptures. As Fr. Ciriaco explained during the Mass homily, “These icons are ‘windows into heaven’ and they remind all who gaze upon them of the connection of Christ’s priesthood to the Hebrew Scriptures, and of their inspiration to us in our life of formation in following the Lord daily.”
The icons were written by renowned iconographer Peter Pearson (pictured below), who has had a 30-year relationship with Theological College, having created several of the icons that adorn the building, including the Three Teresas in the fifth-floor Chapel of the Three Teresas and the copy of Rublev’s Holy Trinity which hangs behind the tabernacle in the main chapel.
May these new icons inspire our seminarians as they begin another semester of formation at TC, conforming their hearts more closely to that of Jesus, the Great High Priest.
