Theological College’s successful diaper drive added to this year’s excitement for another simultaneous annual tradition: the Iron Seminarian Tournament, with competions in darts, pool, and ping-pong. Thirty-five seminarians competed over the weeks prior to the final day of the contest, and those who competed, as the rector stated, “have competed well.” (2 Tim. 4:7). He also noted that “the diaper drive’s incredible success reflects TC’s values and its culture of service.”

Theological College recently hosted its first seminarian-initiated multi-media art exhibit in the newly dedicated Olier Hall. Seminarians, faculty, friends, and neighborhood culture buffs met with artists and discussed creative incentives and ongoing work and challenges. In the midst of the busy start-up to the semester, the exhibit offered the opportunity to contemplate beauty in a peaceful setting while enjoying a light reception and good company. The art work will remain on display through the second week in February.

The Theological College community enjoyed a festive evening to celebrate the end of the semester, beginning with Mass and followed by a generous reception and dinner feast on the last day of classes.

St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore invited the faculty and seminarians of Theological College and St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg to join them in celebrating their Sulpician roots at an event honoring the 225th anniversary of the arrival of the first Society of St. Sulpice formators in the United States.

Theological College’s annual USCCB Bishop’s Breakfast during the bishops’ week-long Fall General Assembly provided the opportunity for bishops and TC seminarians and faculty to mingle in an informal and welcome setting at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore.

The first week of October, Theological College celebrated Alumni Days with graduates from classes spanning over 60 years of TC history. Seminarians, faculty and alumni alike enjoyed the special gift of fraternity as they relaxed and reminisced. Congratulations to all those celebrating anniversaries as TC approaches its centennial celebration in 2017!

Theological College’s 4th Annual Sedes Cup Golf Tournament to benefit the seminary’s formation program and facilities was a resounding success! September 27, 2016, was a beautiful day at Turf Valley in Baltimore, and the over 50 golfers were joined by almost a dozen enthusiastic seminarians on the green for an enjoyable fraternal outing.

On August 23rd, Theological College opened its doors to 23 new seminarians who were enthusiastically greeted by two dozen orientation facilitators and, a few days later, by the returning theologians, bringing TC to a house complement of 75 seminarians and 5 student priests in house, with 9 seminarians on pastoral year. It was an exciting week in which “God’s providential plan” was more clearly revealed to all present.

On July 27, 2016,Theological College hosted its McCormick Pavilion tenants for a generous outdoor picnic with chef Sunder Michael manning the grill loaded with chicken, burgers, veggie burgers, hotdogs, and corn on the cob — served with all the sides and fixings. This summer gathering gives TC an opportunity to thank the tenants and to allow them to get to know each other and the TC staff during the quieter summer months.

On May 14, 2016, ten Theological College theologians graduated and all will be ordained by the end of June. In addition, four students received their master’s (or Ph.L) degrees in Philosophy and two Basselin fellows received their Ph.B. degrees in Philosophy.
